TB X-Ray Van
In Lesotho, a hidden crisis is unfolding. While Bracelet of Hope has long fought on the front lines of the HIV/AIDS pandemic, we know that we cannot defeat HIV without also tackling its most frequent companion: Tuberculosis (TB).
Bringing Life-Saving Screening to the Heart of the Community
Tuberculosis remains one of the most significant health challenges in Lesotho. Because early detection is the key to recovery and preventing community spread, we’re deploying a specialized TB X-Ray Van in May 2026—a state-of-the-art diagnostic clinic on wheels. While our general Mobile Health Units provide primary care, this dedicated unit is equipped with advanced digital imaging technology to identify respiratory issues in minutes, even in the most remote rural villages.
The Critical Link: TB and HIV
In Lesotho, the fight against TB is inseparable from the fight against HIV. Lesotho has some of the highest rates of both diseases globally, and they often act as a “double burden” on the health of the Basotho people.
The Shared Threat: People living with HIV are significantly more likely to develop active TB because of weakened immune systems.
High Co-infection Rates: Approximately 55–60% of TB patients in Lesotho are also living with HIV.
A Deadly Duo: TB is the leading cause of death for people living with HIV. By bringing rapid TB screening directly to communities, we aren’t just treating a cough—we are providing a life-saving intervention for the most vulnerable members of the population.
Our TB X-Ray Van allows us to find these cases early, ensuring that patients receive the integrated care they need to manage both conditions and stay healthy.
Why Mobile Screening Matters
In many regions of Lesotho, traveling to a stationary hospital for a chest X-ray can take an entire day and cost a week’s wages in transport. Our TB X-Ray Van removes these barriers by:
Providing Instant Results: Digital X-ray technology allows for immediate screening on-site.
Reducing Community Spread: Identifying cases early protects families and prevents the spread of TB in crowded or remote areas.
Reaching the Unreachable: Built to navigate difficult terrain, this van ensures that distance is no longer a barrier to a diagnosis.
Keep the Van on the Road
The TB X-Ray Van is a lifeline, but its impact depends on consistent support. Because it operates in remote, mountainous regions, the costs of fuel, specialized maintenance, and expert staffing are significant.
Your gift today ensures that distance and poverty are no longer barriers to life-saving diagnostics.
