Bracelet of Hope

Sacred Heart Catholic School

Over the lunch hour on Tuesday, December 8th 2009, Anne-Marie Zajdlik addressed an assembly of students from grades 4 through 8 at Sacred Heart Catholic School. It was the culmination of a campaign at the school that raised $1,200 for Bracelet of Hope. That is $1,200 from a student population of under 250!

What a fabulous group of youth showing the rest of us how we can make a difference in the world simply by buying, and proudly wearing, a Bracelet of Hope!

The event was supported by Bracelet of Hope's partner in school campaigns, Student Reach International. (www.student-reach.com). Also in attendance was Noma Vales, a long time resident of Guelph who was born in Lesotho and now runs multiple efforts to reduce poverty in her native country through supporting local entrepreneurship efforts there.  Noma is a big part of the after school program at Sacred Heart, and is now in the process of creating similar programs at other area elementary schools.

Anne-Marie's presentation featured a brief video on Reach Lesotho (http://reachlesotho.com/ and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MROHXSGzRso&feature=player_embedded), an exciting initiative of Student Reach that will see 12 area high school students travel to Lesotho in 2011.

It was exciting to see the student's respond to Dr. Zajdlik's passion for standing up and being heard and creating change!
