Hluweluwe Game Preserve Tour

October 26, 2008

5:00 am on a Sunday morning comes early! But by 4:30 am its quite light outside, so its not too bad to get moving.

We piled again into the truck and it was sunny and warm by 5:30 am. Saw all the usual “usual” animals, and still no cats! But we did see a pack of wild dogs. They were weird looking, big rounded ears and spots all over and big teeth and the stench that came off them was eye-watering! They were chasing a nyala (some kind of deer). The guide was excited - he says that there are only 70 wild dogs in the whole park and we saw a pack of 15.

Shortly afterwards we made our way back to the lodge and had breakfast. Then we went out on our own drive in the afternoon. Lots of the usual animals. Still no cats.

Great dinner on the porch overlooking a huge valley. Spectacular view!

Tomorrow we rise for breakfast at 7 and drive to Eshowe to visit the Inina Craft Agency and visit the day orphanage.
